a half celebration

Yesterday we celebrated Henry's half birthday and marked the occasion in the best way we could imagine ... having a "Boots Off Day" all day and oh, wasn't it just wonderful?! I loved it and can't wait til our end-of-the-3-months appointment on Monday back up in Saskatoon where I'm walking out of there showing off my boy's socked feet to whomever will notice. Only nighttime wear after that (probably til he's 4 years old) but that's a cake walk in comparison.

And speaking of cake ... as you can see, we also celebrated with a yummy birthday cake and half of a crayon candle! Though of course Henry didn't even have one taste of it but we were quick to describe to him how utterly delicious each bite was. Strangely enough though, Henry requested the same cake as his dad's very favorite White Cake with Lemon Buttercream Frosting so Sam was particularly pleased with that coincidence!

We have a growing boy on our hands now, as evidenced by the massive growth spurt noted by our Doctor today ... he was very surprised! Henry is now just shy of 18 lbs and in the 90th percentile for height, weight and head circumference. Goodness, I never would have guessed! Of course, we think he's practically perfect is just about every way and love, love, love our funny, fun, beautiful little boy.

sitting pretty

And does my Bar ever help me keep my balance! Guess it's good for somethin' ... (plus, you should see how easy it is for Mum and Dad to change my diaper with this thing ... just grab and lift! Brilliant.)

first page ... done!

I am finally getting to Henry's baby book, procrastinator and fearful-to-start-perfectionist that I am, and today Page One is done and documented. Phew!

I decided to go a different route with his baby book rather than a typical scrapbook, instead using the Sweet Baby Kit of the Month ... everything you need or want to tell the story of your baby's first year. (All of the posts for September 2008 in Becky Higgins blog go into great details ... check it out!)

Now in case you think you should give me kudos for this particular layout ... let me stop you now. The design concept was a complete copy from a page I really admired on another scrapbooker's blog and so you can compare them here. Still, it was fun to put together and I really like how it looks. (You can click on the photo to enlarge it for all the details.)

And you can't go wrong when it's your own beautiful baby you're showcasing, right?!

30 seconds of smiles

Every Mumma's gotta search out their baby's favorite song ... and baby, have we ever found yours! I've learned that no matter Henry's mood, he will always break out into a huge grin by the time I get to the word "sunshine". And his smiles always brighten up my day, they are so beautiful.

love, friday

  • Love that Henry slept 12 hours last night and is already rubbing his eyes for his morning nap.
  • Love that we're warming up here --finally-- as yesterday we jumped from -25c to 0c. I feel humane again.
  • Love that I'm going out for a fondue feast with some girlfriends tonight. I guess it's time to get out of the Mum-at-home-sweatpants!!
  • Love that we only have just over 3 weeks more of wearing the Boots-n-Bar in the daytime ... sigh ... I can't wait.
  • Love the anticipation of tonight's supper, perfectly marinated steaks on the BBQ, twice baked potatoes, and fresh green beans. Mmmm, I'm actually excited to make it!
  • Love that the Grandparents can't quite get enough pictures of our Henry-boy and so I'm quite happy to oblige.
  • Love that we've found a new play area for Henry ... the Laundry Basket Boat. Works like a charm.
  • Love the new muffins/cupcakes I made yesterday, really easy and utterly yummy. I had two waiting beside Sam's coffee mug this morning and he was a happy man! Banana Cupcakes with Cinnamon Vanilla Icing
  • Loved last night's ER episode. Hello again, Doug and Carol, I've sure missed you.
  • Love that Henry just fell asleep for his nap. All by himself. That means I can sneak downstairs, make tea and eat a cupcake!
  • Love Sam and all the hard work he puts in during the week at work. But, boy, am I happy when he's home on weekends ...
