I took a lot of photos on my phone of various events but these are a few from my big camera which I tried to take along with me or grab quickly in the house. I also committed to a daily photo grab on Instagram as a way to really document our two weeks and I really enjoyed that intentional photo project of some of our big moments and little memories. I know realistically that I'm never going to scrapbook every month or print off as many photos as I'd like so Instagram has been a great way for me to capture my daily life and easily get that printed off into book form in the future. Same with this blog and same with FB.
In the weekdays while Sam was at work, my three and I kept busy indeed. Making homemade koolaid-coloured playdoh, getting haircuts for all, scoring free ice cream cones on DQ's 75th anniversary, bringing home a huge bag of library books home, hitting the local playground, Henry and Walter going to Glow Camp at a local church for the mornings of the first week, Felix and I treating ourselves to cupcakes at Crumsby's then the toystore next door and then the beach while the brothers were away, bringing out our Easter decorations, taking our friend Graeme out to Sidney with us for the day to see the Lego exhibit at the museum and to spend ages at the beach finding sea glass and crab legs, fitting in Doctor check ups and vaccinations, driving up to Duncan to spend the day with Nana and Grandad, taking Great Gramma Axelson out to the beach where the boys perfected a pretty awesome driftwood house, starting up swim lessons again, babysitting three little girl friends of ours one morning, and having Grandma, Grandpa, Uncle Cale and cousin Isla over for a quick visit from Vancouver as well. Pheeee-ew. Tired yet?
What I didn't include was two special things that Sam and I did separately with each of the boys and which was a favorite for everyone. For three days in a row Sam took each of the boys skating and that alone time with their Dad was something they each really, really loved. Sam made sure to take some great photos each time so I was able to see their joy and document that for the day. And as for me? ... well, I know that I can't teach them about sports or cars or how to fix or build anything but what I can do it try to impart on them a love of reading and the fun of capturing life through photography and also how to cook! So my project this Spring Break was to give each of the boys their own meal to choose and make themselves, with a little help from Mum of course. I pulled out my old chef's uniform from culinary school and they each played the part with great enthusiasm. Walter chose pancakes ... which we ended up changing to waffles with strawberries and whipping cream and sausages. Felix chose Cheese Sandwiches!! (he always yelled that out) which I was so thankful for, his simple choice. Easy peasy, grilled cheese sandwiches, pickles and bananas on the side = happy boy! And Henry, not surprisingly, chose his very favourite meal that I make ... chicken enchiladas with rice and corn. I wondered if I would regret suggesting this but in fact I honestly enjoyed this time with each of them, especially seeing how proud they were.
So just a few things packed into two short weeks ... you see that a holiday from this holiday might be needed, yes? Well, I did get to two movies at the theatre on my own so that will have to do. And I did watch TV in bed last Saturday morning with my breakfast and my coffee and that.was.glorious. Just sayin'. I'm a simple girl.
