why buy when you can make it?

We stayed home from church today with two sick boys ... yes again, sigh ... and I was suddenly hit with a yearning to get crafty ... so out came the sewing machine and a full cup of coffee. I'm off to a friend's baby shower this afternoon, to celebrate her third child Eva Analise, but I wanted to add in something pretty and homemade along with our group cash gift. (We're being very practical for the third baby, yes? I thought so.)

So I put on my Make-a-Gift-in-One-Hour hat and made this polka-dotted taggie toy, about 10 inches across. A perfect baby gift as I know how very much Walter loves sucking on any tags he finds on blankets or toys. Can I sing the Chambers' We're Proud of You song to myself?? I love it.

And I hope little Eva does too.

my first with two {happy mother's day!}

It's been a surprising snowy and cool day here today but I had a wonderful wake up to my two boys (I still can't believe I had two babies so fast!) in their love-red jammies bringing me a pile of presents. (And Henry saying "Happy Day!" - be still my heart.) Their Daddy knows that I love books - and so far, so does Henry! - so it was books, books galore, some to read together and one just for me. And a framed photo of me and my boys. And a card for Mummy. Perfect.

Sam's been away for the past few days so I was simply thrilled to have him home again and amazingly enough the boys listened to his instructions that everyone sleep in for Mum today ... random miracle! I told my friend Angie that my wish for Mother's Day was eating homemade brownies while watching a movie and I thoroughly, utterly enjoyed both of those last night. Thus the need for a sleep in!

So a Happy Mother's Day to my own Marmee, my Mother-in-law, my sick, pregnant sister and to all my Mother-friends. I sincerely hope none of you are doing the dishes today!
