just for isla, who is two

Yesterday my niece Isla turned 2 and she was finally able to unwrap my love gift to her. A gift perfect for playtime with that special dolly and a certain two year old who is just about to welcome a baby sister to the family. I had been thinking of this idea for the past year and I really had such a good time creating and sewing the quilt, though of course I left it to the last minute before bringing it out on our trip to BC. I bought a simple doll bed from IKEA and then promptly threw away the sad sheet and mattress they provided. No fun or imagination or coziness there. Instead I put together this pretty patchwork of reds and greens and brown rabbits, with a fluffy homemade mattress and pillow to match.

A beautiful homemade doll bed for my sister's beautiful daughter. I love you Isla Rose. And I really can't wait to meet your sister!

looking back

Only weeks away from your first birthday, Walter, and your brother's second and so your Mumma is getting into serious preparation mode now! This year has felt so slow, oftentimes, and I must confess it seems as though you haven't grown up as much as Henry at this age ... but then I look at this past year of pictures and see just how much you've changed indeed. You have always been my gorgeous boy but now you are becoming so very handsome as well, my little eleven month-er. I can't wait to see what this next year will bring for you - and won't it be fun, the four of us together?
