felix is 2 (our last birthday party)

We celebrated our last family birthday this weekend, a big milestone on its own, as Felix turned two on Saturday! September to November is a steady stream of cakes around here, leading right up into Christmas baking all through December, ha. Felix knew it was his turn, knew it was finally his special day and he's been so excited for his party, saying "Yay!" whenever we would talk about it. In fact it's been astonishing hearing him say so much more in just the past 3 weeks … he's a baby no more, that's for sure. And I am loving it!

We wanted to take the party out of our small house this time and so we rented a play place out in Langford which was perfect for the 2-5 year old kids and had a great spot for the adults to sit and relax. Sam's parents came down from Duncan and my parents came over from Vancouver, bringing Isla and Eden and their dad Glen with them. (My still-pregnant, still-sick sister decided to stay home for a quiet day instead, smart girl.) And our friends Heather and Chris joined us too, with Bowen and Quinn - amazingly since today is Heather's due date with Girl #3 and she was questioning whether she was in labour or not. What a trooper.

There are two moments I want to remember from yesterday … Watching Felix jump on the mini trampoline with such joy and gusto and watching him blow out his two candles over and over so earnestly. He's grown up so noticeably in the past month even and it was so fun for me to celebrate this birthday with him. The first birthday he was really aware of and excited for. Felix, you are the best third boy we could have ever imagined. I hope you squeeze my neck and say "Hi Mumma" 53 times a day for a long, long time. I know I'll miss you when you grow up.

But for now, being 2 is going to be pretty great.

Oh, my goodness! I've just caught up on two months worth of your blog posts. I didn't comment on any because there's no time, but you're back in my bookmarks, so you should see me checking in a lot more often! I do have to comment on the soccer post, though, because Sam looks thoroughly winded. Tot soccer is pretty tough, isn't it, Sam?
