Once I made plans last weekend to start this on Thursday I couldn't help but feel nervous and worried by Wednesday night. But Henry has surprised us again and he has been spectacular again, even in potty training. And I have surprised myself too, learning to adapt in this, have confidence, and most of all have patience and perseverance. Still, I'm am awfully tired today even though it went much easier than expected. It helped so much having Walter over at a friend's house all day Thursday and Friday so I could just concentrate on Henry.
The 3 Day Potty Training method we closely followed has been excellent and it worked exactly as promised. I am impressed. And relieved. And thankful. It does not follow a common practice of having the child sit on the potty repeatedly every 20 minutes in the hopes that they'll randomly pee and make a connection but instead training the child to understand their own body's cues when they need to go to the bathroom and to act on those cues.
That, and the important task of getting rid of all your diapers so there's no going back .... no escape hatch for boy or Mum. No mixed signals.
Henry had three accidents that first morning, one on our plastic-covered couch and two on the floor. He was really upset and bothered by those! Every time I simply put him on the potty right away and said that it was yucky his underwear was now wet and that pee goes in the potty. No reprimand, no "it's ok", just "Be sure to tell Mummy when you have to go pee" again and again. And that fourth time, I kid you not, Henry said "Can I go pee?" and we raced to the potty. For 25+ times in a row. No accidents, no messes. And after stopping his liquids at supper and having a lot of pees before bed, he was perfectly dry the next morning too. Brilliant.
Yesterday we had a few episodes of wet underwear but nothing too major. Another great day and night. Today the same. It's still a lot of work and a lot of undivided attention but he is getting this and we are so, so proud of him. Tomorrow we'll finally leave the house to go to church and so we're prepping him for the shock of a different potty there. I don't doubt that's certainly going to be a struggle.
Even now I can hear Henry getting off the potty and announcing, as he has done numerous times today, "Good job Henry!".
My thoughts exactly.

glad to hear it's going so well! We used the 3 day method too, and it worked well... she was totally dry except at night for about 2 weeks, and then she got sick, and it was back to square one. :( It's been really hard since then, but she is FINALLY starting to do really well again. Good work mum!!
What a big kid! Congrats to you both.
I love this method too! I was a bit clueless as to how to potty train our daughter. And I was overwhelmed by much advice. But my sister shared this method with me and it worked really well! Intense but so worth it. Admittedly it went a little longer than three days, but not that much longer!
Way to go!
