may days

The end of another busy weekend. Most of our upstairs floor - with all 4 bedrooms - is practically empty now. Empty enough to hear an echo as I chatter with Sophie while she roams around me and stirs up a dust bunny or two. I've been packing up and packing away since after work on Friday and feel rightfully tired and sore after this last weekend's push. Sam's parents arrive on Thursday night for 2 weeks and Dad M and Sam will start in right away on Friday, demolishing and carting away everything we see of our existent walls and floors. My first big renos project ... I really don't know what to expect. If it won't faze me in the slightest or if it will really irritate me for having to be part of this upheaval. I think I'll be ok though. At least our kitchen and bathroom will be untouched and so life can go on without too much discomfort if those two home zones are in place and organized.

We kicked Sophie out of the "dining room", after scrubbing and disinfecting every plausible surface, and put her in our enclosed front sunroom/porch. I put "dining room" in quotations as there really hasn't been much 'dining' happening in there at all and instead it's been Sophie's luxurious townhouse since she moved in just before Christmas. Eventually I hope we'll have a proper hutch for storing fancy bowls and cake plates and a long farmhouse style family table for feasts and projects. But for now it's our undefined room ... and temporary sleeping quarters for Sam and I for the next 5 weeks, I reckon.

We drove out to Medicine Hat again on Saturday, to get the last of our Home Depot shopping done. After realizing on Thursday that we didn't have all of our lighting fixtures bought and ready to go in the house for when our electrician gets to work. I didn't find quite the modern, contemporary pieces I was hoping for, but close enough. I also bought myself a lovely lavender plant for Mothers Day and a red watering can ... just because it's pretty. I gave Sam the pot to hand back to me, so really, the Mothers Day gift is from him and did he ever know exactly what to get me!

Banana bread baking today, plus a from-scratch dinner, dessert at DQ, and a drive around town. Weekend's done. In my housecoat now and ready for bed. Really ready. Baby and Mumma need to sleep ... but perhaps one needs to start in on the next 'Anne' book for a few chapters first, don't you think?!

I love lavender plants...just rub your fingers between the leaves whenever you walk by and you'll have a wonderful smell that goes with you!
